The Historic Čiernohronská Railway Carriage in a New Look

The hissing of steam, smoke, the piercing whistle, wooden carriages... It's pure railway nostalgia. This is what makes the hearts of many historic train enthusiasts race, as they decide to visit the Čiernohronská Railway and take a ride in the wooden carriages.

In June of this year, our hearts also raced, as we had the opportunity once again to visit the railway in Čierny Balog and restore one of the historic carriages. We started by removing the old paint with the help of our excellent friends from MET KOV, who blasted the carriage with their mobile sandblaster down to the bare wood. We then used a scraper from Anza to clean the surfaces, followed by sanding with an electric sander to ensure the surface was perfectly smooth. After removing the dust from the carriage, we were ready to begin painting.

Choosing the right painting tools was easy. We always opt for quality, so we chose Anza brushes and rollers. For the metal parts, we used Rostex Super black as the primer and topped it with the highly glossy, time-tested Miranol in black. The wooden parts of the carriage were painted with Ultra Classic covering paint in green and yellow-white shades, and for the floor, we used brown Betolux.

We are proud that this year, the railway kicked off its 30th anniversary season with our restored carriage. And since we’re not stopping at just one carriage, we plan to return to Čierny Balog to restore the paintwork of more carriages.

And if you’re unsure where to go for a trip this summer, we highly recommend a ride along the rails of Balok!
